- Make your resume stand out.
As an important self-marketing tool, your resume highlights your work experience, extracurricular activities, skills, and educational background. Aim to clearly emphasize your experiences and transferable skills in relation to your targeted position by reviewing our effective resume tips and samples .
- Draft an effective cover letter.
Communication skills are essential for success in any business career. Ensure your job search correspondence is polished and professional, including cover letters, emails, informational interview requests, and thank you letters. Get a positive response by making sure that your correspondence is on target.
- Build your professional network.
Networking is key—according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 70 percent of all jobs are found through networking. In addition to your own relatives, friends, and acquaintances, resources such as Undergraduate Career Service’s employer database and the IU Alumni Association chapters and groups are available to help you expand your base of professional contacts. Create your LinkedIn profile and join the Kelley School of business group to connect with Kelley alumni there. Work with a career coach to bolster your ability to network effectively.
- Ace your interview.
Congratulations! The company is interested in you and you got the interview. There are many things you will need to do before, during, and after the interview to ensure success. Polish your interviewing skills with your career coach and utilize resources such as Glassdoor to do your company research.
